Flight One

Vent

2012

oil on canvas

80 x 60cm

I have no memory of where I found this work or what it actually looked like before I overpainted it. It was known as 2012, No. 3, but lately, to describe it, I have been calling it Vent. At one point in its making it presented a male figure, stretching upwards, reaching towards the sky. That didn’t last, but the remnants of that figure remain. The landscape at the bottom reveal marks from the original recycled painting. For the first time, the outline of a flying bird presented itself as the horizon. This motif would be repeated in later works.
