Down the Barrel
2013
oil on canvas
101 x 76cm
Instead of writing about the making of this work, as I have described with many of the other paintings in this catalogue, I have enough reference photography to show the making of it.
I generally don’t photograph the process too much as I go along but on this occasion I collected quite a few images, including the first one, a selfie of the contemplative artist with the untouched found work in a blurry background.
As I have described previously, I set out with no intended outcome for the painting; it simply told me what it was as I went along.
This was the first time a weapon had appeared in one of my paintings, a motif echoed in Watch Out, He’s Got a Gun.
